lar. Milletimizin bize karşı bü-
yük ilgisi vardı. Rus’a, Bulgar’a,
Amerikalıya yenilmek bi-
zim için ölüm gibi bir şey-
di. Devletin ödül yönetmeli-
ği olmamasına karşın Türk hal-
kı özellikle güreşçilere her za-
man sahip çıkmıştır.”
Güreşi bıraktıktan son-
raki yaptıklarınızdan söz
eder misiniz biraz? Sizden

yaşamınızı noktaladıktan
sonra neler yaptığınızı,
neler olduğunu?
“Sonraki yıllarda güre-
şe idari kademelerde hiz-
met verdim. İki dönem
Türkiye Güreş Federasyonu
Başkanlığı yaptım. Kendi
isteğim ile Federasyon
Başkanlığından istifa ede-
rek ayrıldım. 1980 yılında 12
kurucu üye ile Türk Güreş
Vakfı’nı kurduk. Hasan Bozbey
Federasyonu’nda üyelik, Alp
Karabiber Federasyonu’nda
asbaşkan, Yücel Seçkiner
Federasyonu’nda başkan
danışmanı olarak bulun-
dum. 1988 yılında Türk güre-
şi için zamanın ünlü güreşçisi

an American, was some-
thing like death to us. Turkish
people have always sup-
ported, especially the wres-
tlers, even though no Awards
Regulation existed.”
Can you tell us a little
more about your endeav-
ours after quitting wres-
tling? Let’s hear it from
yourself, what has hap-
pened and what you did
after quitting wrestling
on 12 September 1970?
“I served wrestling in ad-
ministrative levels after that.
I was the President of the
Turkish Wrestling Federation
for two terms. I resigned from
the office with my own de-
cision. Together with 11 oth-
er members, we estab-
lished the Turkish Wrestling
Foundation in 1980. I was a
member of the Federation
during Hasan Bozbey’s, the
vice president during Alp
Karabiber’s and a consultant
during Yücel Seçkiner’s pres-
idencies. I played the lead-
ing role in the film made
about the famous wrestler of
his time, Kurtdereli Mehmet
Pehlivan. It was broadcast-
ed at the TRT in three epi-
sodes. I donated the reve-
nues and the royalties of the
film to the Turkish Wrestling
Foundation. I was chosen as
the President of the Turkish
Wrestling Foundation of which
I am a founding member. I re-
main as such since 20 years.
We did some great works with
the Foundation: The Sports
Complex at Ahlatlıbel and
Hotel Çam which belong to the
Turkish Wrestling Foundation
and the Champion Wrestlers’
Mausoleum in Karşıyaka,
Ankara are a few among
these. I was decorated with
the “Medal of Distinguished
Service” by the 9
th
President
Hon. Süleyman Demirel. I
was elected a member to the
FILA Executive Committee in
1998 and re-elected in 2010
FILA Congress and became
the Vice President. I received
