Kimi kaynaklarda Futbol Milli
Takımımızın 1948 Olimpiyatı
kadrosunda yer aldığı görülen
Halit Deringör bu çelişkiyi de
şöyle anlatıyor:
“1941’den beri milli takımın
sol açığında ya rahmetli Şükrü
Gülesin ya da ben oynuyor
dum. Şükrü benden daha yapı
lıydı. Olimpiyat için Milli Takım
aday kadrosuna alınmış, bir
ay İstanbul Caddebostan’daki
Marmara Yat Kulübü’nde kamp
yapmıştık. Olimpiyat kafilesine
adım bildirilmişti. Ancak son
anda, Ankaralıların oyunlarıy
la, Vefalı Galip Haktanır’ la ben,
kadrodan çıkarıldık. Gerekçe
olarak, ‘Bir İngiliz takımıyla
İstanbul’da yaptığımız maç
ta rakip takımın sağ bekini sa
katlamamı, futbolcunun ha
len hastanede yatmasının tat
sız olaylara yol açabileceğini ’
gösterdiler. Yine o yılların ef
sane Fenerbahçe’sini yaratan
Macar antrenör Ignar Molnar’ı
da Londra’ya götürmediler.
Takım Olimpiyata antrenör
süz gitti. Kulübüm de bu işe
çok bozulmuştu. ‘Bu mesele
Fenerbahçe’nin onur meselesi
dir. Seni biz Londra’ya gönde
receğiz’ dediler. Futbol ayakka
bılarımı yanıma almadan, ikin
ci kafileyle güreşçilerle birlikte
Londra’ya gittim.”
Güreşler sırasında Yaşar Doğu,
Celal Atik ve Gazanfer Bilge’nin
üç minderde, göz göze gelerek
aynı anda rakiplerinin sırtlarını
mindere yapıştırmaları salonda
büyük tezahürata yol açıyordu.
1939 grekoromen Avrupa ikin-
cisi, 1940 Balkan grekoromen,
1946 serbest, 1947 grekoro-
men Avrupa şampiyonu efsane
güreşçimiz Yaşar Doğu, sırasıy-
la Hintli Bhangava’yı 2:58’de,
İranlı Abbas Zandi’yi 4:05’te,
Mısırlı Mustafa’yı 7:39’da,
Macar Kalman Sovari’yi 7:04’te
Then, Celal reversed the move
and gained the top position.
They quitted wrestling when
they saw Coach Nurettin
(Nurettin Boytorun) coming
along. They were both looking
at each other with admiration.
Since I knew English a little
I could understand what the
American said. He said, “Who
is this man, he has very strong
legs…” and Celal Atik said that
the guy would trash them if he
was a wrestler. While we were
watching the wrestling at the
Empress Hall, this time we
were flabbergasted when we
saw Muharrem Candaş’s op
ponent. He was the American
guy (Wittenberg) who wres
tled Celal Atik on the grass
pitch. He became the only
wrestler to beat Muharrem.”
Halit Deringör, who is cited to
be among the players of our
National Football Team in the
1948 Olympic Games accord-
ing to some sources, explains
this confusion as follows:
“Since 1941, either I or de
ceased Şükrü Gülesin were
playing on the left wing of
our national team. Şükrü was
sturdier than I. We were in
vited to the selections for the
National Team and stayed in
the Marmara Yacht Club in
Caddebostan, İstanbul for a
month of training. My name
was affirmed for the Olympic
team. However, at the last mo
ment, Galip Haktanır from
Vefa Club and I were exclud
ed from the team as a result of
some hoaxes played by some
guys from Ankara. They cited
my injuring the right back of
the opponent English team in
a match we played in İstanbul
and as the player was still in
hospital, this could lead to un
desirable incidents to justi
fy themselves. They did not
take Fenerbahçe’s Hungarian
coach Ignar Molnar, who had
Greco-Roman style, Celal Atik
ranked European third in 1947
and World second in 1950 in
this style. Atik served at var-
ious levels in our national
team until 1971 and died, due
to complications related to his
liver, in 1979.
Halit Deringör, who was once
one of the indispensable left
wingers of Turkish football to-
gether with Şükrü Gülesin,
says the following in his mem-
oirs about the 1948 Games:
“Muharrem Candaş, Yaşar
Doğu and Celal Atik were
bantering on the grass pitch.
A tall, handsome guy with a fit
body like Tarzan’s was watch
ing them from the side. This
guy, who was an American
as we later found out, ac
cepted our friends’ chal
lenge for wrestling. He start
ed wrestling with Celal Atik.
The American took Atik un
der him with a startling move.
Celal Atik was astonished.
