Junior Grand Prix of
Figure Skating 2013 in
September. Our athletes
had an extraordinary tour-
nament winnig 15 gold, 11
silver and 6 bronze med-
als. What sort of a strate-
gic plan must be followed
to achieve such success at
sniors level?
“As I have said before, the
athletes to carry on with their
careers when they reach a cer-
tain age depends on the cir-
cumstance the government
policies create. In order to
achieve greater success at the
senior level, priority must be
given to the removal of their
concerns and fears regard-
ing their educational future.
Athletes with such concerns
find it very difficult to carry on
with their sporting lives and
the lack of concentration stem-
ming from such fears prevents
success. No doubt such suc-
cesses at the juniors’ level will
be achieved at seniors’ lev-
el as well, once we overcome
this problem.”
How many licensed
athletes are there at
the Turkish Ice Skating
Federation? Can you tell
us about your projects to
increase the number?
“The total number, in all dis-
ciplines, is 3.277. However the
number of active athletes is
only 893. We are planning on
works to be undertaken to in-
crease the number of athletes
and spectators via promoting
and creating awareness of ice
skating in all age categories.”
2013 Eylül ayın-
da Artistik Buz Pateni
Junior Grand Prix yarış-
masına ev sahipliği yap-
tık. Sporcularımız 15 al-
tın, 11 gümüş ve 6 bronz
ile olağanüstü bir turnu-
va geçirdiler. Bu başarı-
ların yetişkin kategori-
sine taşınması aşama-
sında nasıl bir stratejik
plan işlenmelidir?
“Bahsettiğimiz gibi belli bir
yaşa gelen sporcunun spor
hayatına devam edebilme-
si devlet politikalarının ha-
zırlayacağı zemine bağlıdır.
Büyükler kategorisinde daha
fazla başarı elde edebilmek
için öncelikli olarak bu kate-
gorideki sporcularımızın aklın-
dan gelecek kaygılarını, eği-
timlerinden kopma veya geri
kalma korkularını çıkartmak
gereklidir. Bu tip kaygıları ta-
şıyan sporcunun spor hayatı-
na devam edebilmesi giderek
zorlaşırken, bahsedilen kay-
gılardan kaynaklı konsantras-
yon eksiklikleri, gelecek ba-
şarının maalesef önüne geç-
mektedir. Eğer bu sorunu aşa-
bilirsek genç kategorisinde-
ki başarıların yetişkin sınıfına
taşınacağından hiçbir şüphe-
miz bulunmamaktadır.”
Türkiye’de Buz Pateni
Federasyonu’na kayıt-
lı kaç lisanslı sporcu var?
Bu sayıyı artırmak için
uygulanması düşünülen
projelerden bahsedebi-
lir misiniz?
“Türkiye Buz Pateni
Federasyonu’na bağlı branş-
ların tamamını kapsayan top-
lam lisanslı sporcu sayısı 3277
iken, faal sporcu sayısı ise
893’dür. Tüm yaş kategorile-
rinde buz patenini tanıtan ça-
lışmalar gerçekleştirip farkın-
dalık yaratarak, hem sporcu
hem de izleyici sayısında artış
yaşanmasını planlamaktayız.“
pair, who are continuing their
preparations in Russia with
coach Alexander Zhulin, with
the support of our Federation.
This success has constitut-
ed an example for all our ath-
letes to see that the repre-
sentation of our country at
the Olympics is a difficult, yet
possible task. We shall con-
tinue to work hard during the
oncoming periods to see that
athletes in different disci-
plines put in an appearance.”
Tuğba Karademir, the
only figure skater able
to compete at Olympics
and who put Turkey on
the world figure skating
map, quitted skating in fa-
vour of education. Many
young athletes, especial-
ly those in winter sports,
quit, feeling that they
may not have a successful
career. What is your opin-
ion on this and what are
the measures you wish to
be taken?
“Actually, the situation is a
very important problem the
Turkish sports face. The pro-
jects, curriculum and the op-
eration of the Ministry of
the National Education and
that of the Council of Higher
Education, must be in a struc-
ture to help smooth the path
for the athletes. That many
athletes at a certain age have
to quit their sports career due
to concerns about their ed-
ucation and future, is affect-
ing themselves and those who
raise them adversely. Raising
a successful athlete winning
medals for the country in-
volves a very difficult pro-
cess, especially in ice sports.
Therefore, government policies
encouraging sports and ath-
letes are required to overcome
such problems.”
